Get Support Through NPCF

Northern Piedmont Community Foundation connects nonprofits in the piedmont region with the resources they need to carry out their critical work, as well as supporting local students by connecting them with scholarship opportunities.

 How We Help

NPCF has a variety of methods by which we connect nonprofits and individuals doing great work with folks who want to support them.

Donor Advised Grants

The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation awards funds advised by individuals, families, and corporations. While grants from Donor-Advised Funds are typically initiated by the donor, NPCF’s Board of Directors exercises the final discretion and control concerning the expenditure of these funds. Applications are not accepted; instead, donors utilize a Donor Suggestion Form to recommend funding opportunities. To learn more, check out our list of Current Funds.

Scholarships

The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation manages scholarships, most of which are designed to assist graduating high school students with further education. However, each scholarship has unique requirements. Many have external applications. To learn more, visit our Scholarships page.

Discretionary County Appeals

As a catalyst in addressing the immediate concerns of the four counties we serve, the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation informs its donors of current community projects so that they may join in addressing strategic needs.

If you are specifically seeking funding and believe your work addresses a concern we are unaware of, you may submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) through the same process as our Unrestricted Grants program. General questions about discretionary county appeals may be directed to the Executive Director of the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation at 540-349-0631 or email at jbwilson@npcf.org.

Unrestricted Grants

The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation (NPCF) conducts a broad-based grant-making program that provides vital funding for all aspects of community wellbeing. Resources are concentrated geographically to preserve and enhance the quality of life to residents of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Rappahannock Counties. To learn more about these grants and apply, please visit our Grants page.

COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund

In early 2020, we created the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation Emergency Response Fund to facilitate community giving through a pooled fund in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We knew that a local philanthropic response was critical and we wanted to be prepared for both donor giving and community need. The ERF provides flexible resources to organizations in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Rappahannock counties helping to alleviate the effects of both the COVID-19 pandemic and emergent needs. The Fund operates in partnership with local governments, schools, other foundations and the private sector to address current and emerging needs and strategically fill gaps in support. Give Local Piedmont

Give Local Piedmont (GLP) is annual 24-hour online fundraising event that inspires people to give generously to the nonprofit organizations that are making our region stronger. Since our first GLP in 2013, the event has raised over $8,000,000 for local nonprofits. Every dollar that is donated from midnight to 11:59 am on the first Tuesday of May, is increased with additional "bonus" dollars ($100,000!) generously provided by the PATH Foundation and prize dollars graciously donated from our local businesses and Northern Piedmont fund holders. Learn more by visiting our Give Local page.
