Nonprofit Spotlight Series: The Boys and Girls Club of Madison Virginia

The Boys and Girls Club of Madison, Virginia opened its doors 15 years ago. Today the club is thriving, serving 150 children a month. The club provides year-round services for youth living in the area. Laura Kerfoot, Director of Foundation, Corporate, and Government Relations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia, stated that β€œthe club is committed to being a reliable, affordable, and accessible out-of-school-time option where kids can get the tools they need for academic success, learn healthy lifestyles, and develop good character and citizenship.”

Unit Director Anthony Hill is a Madison County native who left the area however is home now and focused on Madison County youth. Hill uses many of his own life experiences to talk with youth about setting goals and being consistent with their follow-through. Learning to be consistent is fundamental when combined with other positive qualities.  Hill sees this as beneficial for all youth. Setting goals and working to achieve those goals is a quality Hill hopes all the children participating in The Boys and Girls Club will acquire.

The club hosts a variety of programs for youth, such as the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In collaboration with Madison County Library, a summer reading program aims to help 1st through 4th-grade students maintain their grade-level reading proficiency and even surpass it!
